About the speaker
Denis Jahič is director and board member of Julon Ltd., the company for the production of polyamide filaments and granules, which is owned by Italian group Aquafil. Jahič joined Julon after graduating from the Faculty of Chemistry in 1996, when the new Julon owner was looking for well-educated and insightful engineers who could help modernize the company. In a short time Denis joined the leading team and participated in its continuous development and expansion.
A special milestone on this path was the year 2007 when Aquafil committed to sustainable development. In Julon Ljubljana, Aquafil established ECONYL process for the regeneration of the basic raw materials for their products (yarn and polyamide granulate 6) from waste fishing nets, textile parts of carpets and industrial residues. Large investment in software development has soon paid off. Today, regenerated materials are used for over 10% of Julon products, and thus they reduce the amount of waste and consumption of crude oil, from which the raw material is traditionally obtained. ECONYL is a unique example of circular economy within the man-made fiber industry. Julon is the only company that process polyamide 6 waste to such extent. Their future plans are to increase the share of ECONYL products and strive to reduce the impact of its activities to the environment.
