About the speaker

Peter is the founder of International Synergies. He graduated with a degree in Economics and Ecology and then spent 18 years in the aerospace manufacturing industry as contracts and commercial manager at GEC Marconi, Smiths Industries and Meggitt Aviation & Marine before completing a second degree in Environmental Management.

Subsequently he worked as a Local Agenda 21 Officer for a municipality and as a sustainability consultant for Shell Exploration and Production before establishing the UK Business Council for Sustainable Development in 2002, holding the position of Deputy Chief Executive for four years before leaving to establish International Synergies. Peter devised the company’s flagship project, the National Industrial Symbiosis Programme (NISP) NISP which has since been replicated at regional or national scale in over 20 countries across five continents.

Peter is the driving force behind International Synergies, and works tirelessly to advocate the benefits of industrial ecology around the world and is an expert witness on a number of European Panels. He gave the keynote on the Circular Economy at the Global Green Business Summit in Mexico City earlier this year and has been instrumental in providing the evidence base for the G7 to announce a workshop on industrial symbiosis (Birmingham 29/30 October 2015) as the first action of the G7 Alliance on Resource Efficiency.
