Omar Gehad from Egypt leading a discussion in Kosovo Clean World conference about inner communication.
Omar, our brilliant designer from Helwan University near Cairo has many interesting things happening in his life. For example you can read about his trip to Kosovo from Let’s Do It World webpage. More importantly he managed to organize an acidental indoors cleanup in his university with around 14000 participants!
An accident with 140000 participants???
9.00 AM Omar and his fellow students were sitting in the seminar room waiting for the lecture to begin when they got a notice from their professor saying lecture is canceled due to the problems with his car. Students were thrilled of course and planned to go home…
11 AM Luckily Omars’ friends had heard his involvement in LDIM initiative and they said “why don’t we clean up our drawing room?” (Omar studies Decorations and Costumes Design in Faculty of Arts Theatre Department) So all students in that lecture hall started cleaning up their own drawing room from empty paint cans and other trash: 15-16 baskets of trash all together.
1 PM So it happened that the students of Economics and Business administration had just finished their exams and saw design students cleaning their department and desided to play along! They were cleaning their seminar room that fits around 7000 people of bottles, empty cans and other stuff.
5 PM Luckily the chemists also noticed that something strange is happening in the arts and economics departments and came to ask for more information. The chemists took their white coats and joined in! By that time even the professors left their desks and chaires to to clear all faculty area from trash. People were already cleaning the streets in front of the University buildings!
9 PM Security guards had noticed some unexpected actions going on in the university. As Egypt is going through a little shakey times security guards were afraid that revolutionay action is shaking the Uni so they ran to rescue just to find students and professors cleaning their departments from trash.
By the end of the day all the lecture halls were cleared from trash and people were already scraping together sand from the road in front of the University to have the chance to do at least one more thing! There you go – an accidental clean-up action with 14 000 people! Need guidelines or want to join in actions in Egypt – contact Omar.
P.S. Big thanks for everyone at Let’s Do It World! Clean World conference Pristina Kosovo for all inspiration!
