On October 24. 2013, LDI Bosnia and Herzegovina (one of the partner organisations of Let’s Do It Mediterranean) organized the greatest volunteer action of planting trees in the history of this country. More than 10 000, mostly young people from 72 municipalities took part and planted 230 000 trees. All the plants were provided by forest companies throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The goal of the action was to raise awareness of the importance and value of forest ecosystems which are many: forests provide habitats to diverse animal species, they offer watershed protection, timber and non-timber products, they prevent soil erosion, help in maintaining the water cycle, and check global warming by using carbon dioxide in photosynthesis.
