7 reasons why You should be acquainted with Kim!

Have You wondered who is the new clever girl behind Let’s Do It Mediterranean summer events? Well – here she is, Kim Matrljan, volunteer of the Croatian team (association Žmergo) who is the one who can help you with all questions concerning Let’s Do It Mediterranean summer events!
1. How are you connected to Let’s Do It Mediterranean!
I’m currently volunteering in the association Žmergo which is the part of the organizing team of Let’s do it Mediterranean, whose idea is to gather all the Mediterranean countries and unite them cleaning our sea and our coast.logo_v10(1)

Personally, I am responsible for coordinating public relations and communications about events with all the Mediterranean countries. In these days I’m planing to contact as many countries as I can to ask them about events and see what they think about our ideas.

2. How can people and organisations join Let’s Do It Mediterranean summer events?

Our idea was that all countries organize their participation locally the best they can with the marinas and the people. I’ll send an email to all countries and to agree a list of countries that have agreed to participate in the event and than I’ll publish on the site 🙂 (more questions: kim.matrljan [at] gmail.com)

3. What is your personal connection to the Mediterranean sea?

Kim

Near Opatija (Rijeka, Croatia)

I was born in France, but as a baby I began to live in Rijeka, the principal seaport and the third largest city in Croatia, where I grew up near to the Mediterranean Sea which has been an integral and very important part of my life. There is no day when I didn’t see and felt the Mediterranean Sea and felt a strong connection, memories and love for it.

Enjoying a variety of different activities on the sea and on the coast of the beautiful Croatian coastline I experienced many beautiful memories with a lot of my close friends and family, but there are some less pleasant memories attached to it, the pollution of the sea and sadness because of carelessness of many people. Because of this, I want to help at least in some way to preserve the beauty of the sea and to aware people about the value of our only Mediterranean Sea.

4. Name 3 changes you’d like to see in people for a healthier environment in next two years!

1. Awareness of the people about the value of only environment that we have,

2. The desire of the people to preserve the sea and the coast, and thus participate in the events and the different actions as many as possible,

3. That environmental conservation and awareness of the same essence becomes everyone’s lifestyle.

5. What would be your two suggestions for people who want to keep the Mediterranean clean?

* To be more involved in projects with organizations in their countries as well as in everyday life and so try to maintain our sea.

* That the environment becomes a part of a lifestyle and not just a temporary awareness.

6. What are you doing in your “real” life?

I graduated with a bachelor degree in Communication Sciences in December at the University of Trieste, in the Italian city, Trieste, very close to Rijeka and currently I am free. I’m involved in many hobbies, such as cooking, gym, running, babysitting my nephew J, doing some marketing projects for competition in Italy and many more. In September, I‘m starting my Master in Marketing in London. London is likely to be an amazing experience but lacks the Mediterranean sea, for sure!

7. Can we clean the Mediterranean Sea in spring 2014?

We are always open to such ideas and projects. Why not? J It is all of course depends on how much people are willing and eager to participate along with us 🙂
