As you probably know on 10 of May 2014 we are going to have the biggest beach/sea cleanup ever, for it to be effective at least 5% of the people of the Mediterranean Sea coastal area should some how be involved. It’s a massive heap of people. Where do they all come from? How can you reach people? Is your country on board of LDI Mediterranean (check the list of contacts)! Get involved!
To get the attention of as many people as possible, we’ve decided that on 13-15 September test-cleanups and other awareness events will be held. Here are some guidelines on how to organize a Let’s Do It Mediterranean! awareness event. Events may be different (seminars, beach cleanups, workshops, public campaigns, sponsor events etc.) but it would be brilliant if at least one beach clean-up would be held per country on any day between 13-15 September. If someone wants more than one it is okay but not encouraged if they can not do each properly.
Purpose: Gain clean-up experience, test LDI methods, check public/donor interest, get photo materials for Big Clean Up 2014
Before the beach clean up try to:
1. use LDI app and waste map to get experience (especially new teams/activists)
2. get volunteers through use of social media to help. This also is good experience to make.
3. contact with Municipality and waste companies to get bags, gloves, t-shirts sponsored.
4. contact with local TV and newspapers to get out the word (use The River- LDIM tv spot or LDIM posters), press release

You can also check out Ocean conservancy beach cleanups – they are cleaning also in September. Why not cooperate? http://response.restoration.noaa.gov/about/media/join-2013-international-coastal-cleanup-and-clean-beach-near-you.html
During the one beach clean up try to:
1. organise the work efficiently, delegating locations, training and coordination to sub-groups
2. keep/build good relations with all partners and volunteers, and celebrate together afterwards
3. document the waste collected, volume, weight, photos (maybe before and after pictures)
4. get lots of photos of happy volunteers, action shots, group shots and portraits
5. get press coverage, give interviews, tell about Big Clean Up 2014, thank all contributors, invite important people to help clean and get interviewed
After the beach clean up try to
1. Retain all the contacts (emails, telephones) of those who helped)
2. Collect all new contacts of those who wish to get involved in Big Clean Up
3. Clip and scan any news articles on the test clean up, send scans and TV/radio links to Robert (lystopad19@yahoo.se)
4. Report waste collected, beaches cleaned, number of volunteers, donations made to Robert (lystopad19@yahoo.se)
If you do all that – it will be a lot easier in May!
